In 1998, Tami and Tamara with the support of their families and Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital, sponsored the “First Annual Remembrance Ceremony”.
In 1988, President Ronald Regan proclaimed October as National Pregnancy & Infancy Loss Awareness Month. During the month of October each year, hundreds of parents, health care professionals, family and friends across the U.S. will be participating in “A Walk To Remember”. The walk is dedicated to babies that die each year through miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth, newborn or early childhood death.
Wee Care hosted 10 years of Annual Remembrance Ceremonies. We put a lot of thought, work, and love into making each annual ceremony a special gathering for parents and families to come and honor their child. Since going to quarterly meetings, we felt it was more important to host an October meeting in place of an annual ceremony in order to give parents to express and share what was on their hearts.
We encourage all families to light a candle on October 15th in memory of their child. October 15th is the national recognized day for pregnancy and infancy loss awareness day.
In years to come, we encourage families to come sit and reflect on the Wee Care bench. Families are welcomed to make a small tile at a ceramic shop with their child’s name and birthdate. Drop off the finished tile at Dr. Prangle’s office to be added to the bench.
